How to find a CPSC-accepted laboratory
Finding a laboratory for a children's product is not simply a search for the nearest facility or lowest quote. The laboratory facility must be accepted by CPSC for the specific safety rule or test method your product requires.
Define the testing need first
Build an accurate product profile and determine the applicable rules before requesting quotes. Provide age grading, use, dimensions, materials, coatings, accessible components, variants, factory information, and any existing reports.
A laboratory can help discuss testing, but the importer remains responsible for identifying and certifying to all applicable requirements.
Search by facility and scope
Use CPSC's official laboratory search. Confirm the facility name and physical address rather than relying only on a corporate brand. Review the accepted scope for the exact regulation or method.
Ask the laboratory to confirm in writing:
- The facility that will perform each test
- The CPSC scope covering each requested requirement
- The standard version and test method
- Required sample quantity and configuration
- Expected report identification and turnaround
If different facilities or subcontractors are involved, verify each one where required.
Compare eligible laboratories
After eligibility is confirmed, compare turnaround, price, location, sample logistics, communication, and experience. Commercial partnership status may inform service considerations but never establishes CPSC eligibility.
Validate the completed report
When results arrive, confirm the report names the expected facility, sample, model, methods, dates, and results. Review all pages and appendices. Reconcile discrepancies before using the report to support a CPC.
